larissa marie hyland
i just can't escape; it's like you're here with me now
REMEMBERING THE PAST
>>full name: Larissa Marie Hyland
>>nicknames: Lissa
>>date of birth: March 3, 1880
>>age: 132. Appears about 17.
>>date of change: July 23, 1898
>>occupation: High School Student, for the time being.
>>hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
>>species: Vampire
>>abilities: illusion; she can cast some sort of illusion over herself to appear different to others. it's usually just to make her appear less 'vampiristic'. if she was exceptionally powerful at some point, this ability could probably make her look like someone else entirely, but she doesn't normally have the strength to do that.
TRANSITIONING
>>height: 5'2
>>weight: 105lbs
>>hair: Slightly wavy; dark brown in color.
>>eyes: Deep red; brown with illusion
>>general appearance: Alone, Lissa doesn't seem small. She looks proud and stands tall, but once you place someone of average size next to her, most of that vanishes. Standing at just a couple inches taller than five feet, Lissa might just be one of the shortest girls in her grade. Perhaps one of the shortest girls her "age". Lissa has smooth, fair skin and very feminine features. Her eyes, without the illusion she normally wears like a snug sweater, are the deep color of red wine, and almost appear somewhat liquefied. However, she is able to make them appear their original color--a dark brown the same shade of her hair, just slightly warmer. Lissa's hair is dark brown, and slightly wavy. It falls to about her chest area, and is arranged in long layers. Basically living her life as a high school student, Lissa tries her best to fit into which ever social circle she pleases. She wears what is in style at the moment, and rarely goes without make-up in public. Though she tries for a more natural make-up look, her clothes options can sometimes be rather wild. She likes having a bit of individuality.

>>personality: Lissa's always been an optimistic person. She prefers seeing the good in a situation, rather than the bad. Actually, she'd prefer not thinking about the latter at all. In a way, she's ignorant in a somewhat childish way. She's very accepting of people, but has specific ideas about how someone should life their life--to the fullest. She basically lives by the quote 'Dream as if you'll live forever; live as if you only have today.' It used to mean more, but obviously means less with her immortal state. Overall, she's a kind, sweet girl who doesn't act as mature as she should.
Over the years, Lissa has realized that some people don't appreciate the way she acts. Mainly vampires. At first, she tried to change herself, hoping to be accepted by them. It wasn't long before she realized that she just wasn't suit to live like a vampire, so she went back to her former self--living practically as a human, except for the obvious vampire requirements. She used to be quite insecure. It seems as though this whole situation wiped her insecurities away, except for the occasional off day. Lissa's quite protective of her friends, especially her human ones. She can't live without the company of others, and she finds that human company is most enjoyable. Unlike many other vampires, she thinks of humans as her equal--after all, she used to be one. And, if anything, she might just put herself lower than them. Lissa often finds herself somewhat scared or nervous of the world she belongs to, and doesn't quite understand it, despite being a vampire for over a hundred years.
Lissa has always enjoyed talking--she's been doing it practically nonstop since she's been able to form words. Often, she'll ramble, or start talking about something completely unrelated to what she wanted to talk about. She stumbles over her words often; people sometimes say she talks faster than she can think. Lissa is also quite the girl; she loves shopping and gossiping. What's even better is both at the same time. Lissa isn't conceited like some might think because of her hobbies; she's actually pretty down to earth and enjoys honest conversations.
BEFORE THE BITE
>>mother: alicia hyland, fourty-eight at death, housewife
>>father: thomas hyland, fifty-seven at death, owner of a railway
>>siblings: gregory hyland, sixty at death; minnie hyland, seventeen at death
>>other: none of importance.
>>history: The Hylands had lived in America for generations. They'd come over from England on one of the first boats, wanting to be able to claim they were one of the first Americans. While it took a while to get settled in, especially with all the work the men needed to do to actually be able to live there, the Hylands enjoyed it. It was foreign, and different. There was many job opportunities, which was great for the younger Hylands who didn't want to take part in their father's business. And so, the whole Hyland family moved to the New World; there wasn't a single Hyland left back in England.
Generations later, Thomas Hyland was born. He was an ambitious man; he'd given himself goals before he'd really understood what they meant. Thomas wanted a large, healthy family. Second, he wanted a job to support them. Third, he wanted to become important in Pennsylvania. The young Hyland did achieve these goals, to some extent. At seventeen years old, he met Alicia Monroe, a lovely blond-haired beauty. He fell in love with her beauty, and began to court her. Soon enough, he fell in love with her personality as well. It was basically love at first sight, even for the shy Alicia. They courted for perhaps a year, until Thomas left to become continue an apprenticeship in business. He was gone two years, and when he came back, the two continued as if nothing had changed. At twenty years old, Thomas married Alicia. A year later, they had their first child, Gregory. He was everything Thomas had wanted in a son; he was strong, determined, and just as ambitious as Thomas had been. They waited nearly five years before trying for another baby. However, the unexpected happened. Instead of just one child like they expected, they had two baby girls; Larissa (Lissa)and Minette (Minnie). Everyone loved the girls. The two were nearly opposites; Lissa was loud, and Minnie was quiet. Lissa loved to play outside, while Minnie preferred the indoors. However, they didn't keep them from loving each other. They bonded over their love for everything 'girly'; dolls, clothes, hair, etc. Their childhood was the same as any normal childhood. It was filled with playing with friends, giggling, and fighting with their siblings and parents.
It wasn't until the twins were nearly seventeen that things began to change. Gregory, now twenty-three, moved to New York to pursue a career in...well, no one seemed to know. He wouldn't tell them anything except that they were leaving. The girls were hysterical to be losing their adorable older brother. For days, Lissa moped. Minnie moved on faster than her, and it might've been that which helped Lissa feel better. Then Lissa met who she believed to be the love of her life.
His name was Mathias, and he was utterly handsome. Both Minnie and Lissa had liked him, but he'd ended up liking Lissa. Minnie was furious with her sister, and they stopped talking. But Lissa was too infatuated with Mathias too really care. There was something about him that thrilled her; something beneath his skin that she couldn't figure out. It figured; she'd always gone for the guys like that--he seemed like a bad boy, and who didn't love bad boys? They both proclaimed their love for each other, and told her parents their plan of marriage. But...Thomas and Alicia hated the boy. They said he didn't have a future, that he wouldn't be able to provide for their daughter. Of course, Minnie said nothing; she was still furious with her sister.
Mathias wouldn't take no for an answer. He came back the next day, early, before anyone was awake. Sneaking into the room Lissa shared with Minnie, he woke her, and after gathering some clothes and necessities, they left through the forest behind Lissa's house. Little did they know, Minnie had been awake, and followed them, intending on making Lissa come back home. About an hour into their journey, as Lissa and Mathias settled down to take a rest. He made a remark about Lissa's sister catching up, and not a minute later, she strode into sight, furious. Both Minnie and Mathias were furious, and began to shout. Things started getting heated, and Lissa couldn't really tell what was going on. Then...Mathias grabbed Minnie and threw her against a tree. Scared and confused, Lissa screamed. Mathias ignored her, picked up Minnie, and grabbed her neck. It was then that Lissa found out the person she loved was a cruel vampire, the things you only heard about in horror stories. Finally regaining her senses, Lissa began to scream and tried to pull him away from her sister. By the time Mathias dropped Minnie and turned to Lissa, her sister was obviously gone. Lissa began to scream at Mathias and sob over her sister's murder. Mathias loved Lissa, but he'd always been quick to lose his temper. He grabbed Lissa and bit her, intending to kill her, but managed to tear himself away before that happened. He dropped Lissa and ran away, and she never saw him again.
When she awoke, everything was...different. Clearer. It took her a while to figure out what she'd become. Actually, she didn't realize it until she caught wind of a man, completely by accident. She could hear his heart beating, and it took only a couple seconds to jump him and drink his blood. Terrified by what she'd become, Lissa headed north into Canada, living off of animals and occasionally heading into a nearby village when she really craved the blood of humans. Lissa lived like an animal for her first years, and in that village, a myth arose, thanks to her. She was known as the blood-thirsty animal that required a sacrifice once a month. Lissa hated who she'd become, and began to control herself better. When she was sure she could handle herself around humans, she headed back to the United States, to her family.
What a mistake that was. Her parents were a mess, and when her mother saw her, she went into hysterics. Alicia thought that Lissa was a ghost that had come back to yell at her for being a bad mother. After reassuring her mother, she left the house, but stayed around for years, watching over what was left of her family. Her mother died a year later, and her father over ten years later. Then she headed north again, towards New York. At first, she wasn't sure what she was doing. Trying to make a new life for herself, perhaps? But she forgot one thing; Gregory moved to New York. It was probably luck that the two stumbled upon each other. He'd heard nothing of her disappearance (or death), though he did wonder why she looked so young, yet more beautiful. Gregory had indeed made a living in New York, turning out to be one of the most successful men in the city he lived in. He already had a family, a lovely wife and two children. Lissa left after a couple days, feeling much better in general. She headed West this time, and spent the next fifty or so years just wandering around, with no idea of where she was headed. But then she began to wish for some...regularity, she supposed. Something she looked forward to every day.
It was around then she discovered her 'illusion' power, the ability to basically mask herself and make herself appear more human. Lissa disguised herself as a teenager in various schools, and moved with every graduation. She made friends, and basically lived as a human, how she might've if she hadn't met Mathias. Just recently, Lissa moved to Forks. She's been living there for a year or so now, effectively masking herself and enjoying that she didn't have to use her illusions too often with the cloudy weather.

>>did you read the rules? Oui (:roleplay sample:Aurora lay across her horse, her eyes gently closed. A slight smile was on her face as she quietly napped. The horse beneath her shook itself, causing Aurora to jump up with eyes wide. She then turned to glare at her horse and sat forward, pushing the horse to a slight trot. In a loose bag draped across her back, a ferret poked its head out then squeaked.
"Ross, I was taking a nap," She murmured quietly to her dappled grey horse. "I don't get much of those." The horse let out a snort in response and picked up speed. Aurora's aqua hair, which had several long braids in it today, flowed into the air behind her. Ross's hooves made a soothing melody of which calmed the elf sitting upon him.
She stopped her horse when she got to a tree. Skillfully climbing off, she grabbed a bridle and attached it to the horse then tied it to the tree. Aurora trusted her horse with her life, but she didn't want to take the risk of him running off. The elf hadn't meant to bring her pet ferret, Mimi, along with her as she walked barefoot along the shore. Mimi poked her head out of Aurora's bag, causing the girl to squeal in surprise. Then she let out a small laugh and allowed the spunky ferret to climb on her shoulder while Aurora walked.
Her feet sunk into the sand, leaving behind wet imprints as she walked. The sand felt cool and relaxing between her toes, as did the sound of waves gently crashing on the shore. She looked down at the sand as she walked, picking up the occasional shell or rock and dropping it into her bag. She loved the beauty of these things; collecting shells was a simple-minded hobby of hers. While slowly walking down the beach, Aurora was quietly murmuring to her ferret. It may have seemed silly for the elf to talk to her ferret, but she found comfort in it. She understood the animal and was sure it understood her...which was why it was such a great companion.
Aurora's calm world shattered when she suddenly saw legs form in her vision. Her head snapped up, mouth slightly open as she gaped as the tall man in front of her. She had been daydreaming and hadn't realized someone else was on the beach as well. Struggling, to talk, Aurora's voice finally came out, quiet and shaky.
"Oh--I'm sorry, I--" Aurora began to say to the man, until she realized she didn't know what she was saying. She gave him a weak half smile. "I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to nearly...run into you. S-Sorry." It was then she realized how close she was to the man, and took a large step backwards, leaving about a couple feet or so of space between them.
